Why Is Healthy Food So Expensive And Junk Food So Cheap?

At my local grocery store I can get a fatty, greasy meal that could feed an entire family for the same price I can buy a bag of grapes. I mean, the produce doesn’t even have to be processed! It doesn’t make sense.
What has this country come to?

Junk food is probably cheaper because it can be mass produced. Really, what goes into junk food besides processed this or partially hydrogenated that, artificial flavoring and yellow dye 40? Not a whole lot. I think Pringles are made out of the same stuff they make the can and the lid out of to be honest with you. (JK) I think we’re poisoning ourselves and I think the government is letting those in the food industry get away with it. When there are products on the market that “may cause cancer,” something is seriously wrong. If there’s even the slightest chance something could cause cancer, it should not be available to consumer until the tests confirm one way or another that the product does or doesn’t cause cancer. And we absolutely can NOT leave it up to the industry to do the testing themselves because they’ll only cover up the real results.

Grapes have to be transported fast, often from the other side of the world (Chile for instance) refrigerated, etc. and and there is a certain percent loss to spoilage if they aren’t sold by a certain date. All this costs money.
Cheap food is made from the cheapest stuff they can find, without regard for whether it has any nutritional value, then loaded with preservatives to extend the shelf life. They are always looking for cheaper ways to get you to eat processed corn: high fructose corn syrup, corn oil, corn flour, animals fattened on corn, et cetera.
As a result “food” is cheaper now. But true cost of eating laboratory-produced food may be more than we want to pay. So go ahead and eat healthy, if you can, and live better.

not only that, there is no where you can go to get a fast, healthy meal. only the grocery store. or if you live in a city like SF or LA or NYC, you have some international fare options… that’s about it. i hate it as well.

Same reason a Mercedes is more expensive than a Kia. Everything that is good cost more. But I get your point.
