I’m going to throw my hypothesis out there- we hate eating healthy food because it tends to be low in fat, and we want fat to store in case of a famine. But there’s gotta be more to it than that. What do you guys think?

it’s a taste factor. foods that are sweet and/or salty are more enticing because those taste buds are more sensitive and cover more surface area of the tongue. plus, they just tend to taste better.

I think we hate healthy foods because no one knows how to cook them. We have been in a “fry it all and bread it up” society that no one knows that changing little things in a recipe can make it better for our health and for taste. I think it’s a mental thing.

If you only eat lean meat and vegetables, you’ll find that you eat the vegetables quite happily. So its really not that we ‘hate’ healthy food – trust me, when you’re really hungry and are allowed only vegetables, but unlimited vegetables, they look GOOD.

The problem is that we prefer high calorie food to low calorie food. For the reason you gave. For our entire evolution, starvation has been a pressing concern. Type 2 diabetes or looking too fat for chicks …. not so much.

Its about exposure and adapting. In our modern society we are exposed to more unhealthy foods than to healthy foods. Because we are exposed to more unhealthy food than healthy foods, we developed a taste for it. If you expose yourself to more healthy foods and less to unhealthy, over time you will begin to see that you like healthy food more. The reason why we are exposed to more unhealthy food is because it is cheaper and easier to make compared to healthy.
