Question: What is a healthy way to stay awake at work?

I went to bed early (like 10pm) and woke up around 6:45am but yet, here it is 10am and I’m yawning. What is a natural, healthy way of waking myself up in the morning?

Keep busy!

You can always ask for extra duties. Not only will it keep your mind going, but you will look like a model employee as well! Or, it may just be a wintertime slump. See if you can get some tropical-smelling candles by your desk (don’t light them, probably not allowed) or some potpourri. Anything that smells like summer! That always helped me.

If this is a chronic problem, then it sounds to me like you are having sleeping problems that you may not be aware of. While you seem to getting enough sleep, there may be a problem with the quality. If you mention it to your doctor, he/she could arrange to send you to a sleep clinic to have this diagnosed and then treated.

bend your head down so it is below your heart (to your knees) hold the back of your calves …do this for one minute. This will get more blood going to the head (this is also a yoga move) it will help you feel more energized.

A healthy meal ( fresh fruit and something high in B vitamins) and maybe a walk in the crisp winter air.
If you are allowed a break go outside for a few minutes, have some orange juice or an apple. Maybe a half a sandwich ( nothing fatty, fatty food makes you sleepy).
Avoid caffeine as it will only help a few minutes and then boooooom down you go.
Find something to do that’s not as boring as sitting here on yahoo answers ( see I am even more bored than you ,, I am at home and I am sitting here!).

Eat breakfast. Nothing heavy or anything. In the winter (it’s a nice, warm 39 degrees F right now) I like to eat a nice big bowl of fiber-rich oatmeal with strawberries in it.

I am also a coffee junkie (coffee is natural, lol, it’s the fancy creamer that’s bad for you). If you don’t do coffee, then green tea is good (it can have caffeine).

If you don’t want to do caffeine, then ice-cold water works the best. I freeze water bottles overnight and bring them to work and drink them as they melt. It’s a good way to stay hydrated and the ice snaps your senses awake. Also, a crunchy snack works for me. Carrots are good, they’re nice and munchy. Not sure why, but that crunchy noise in my head (you know how it sounds kind of loud when you chew) keeps me alert. I don’t know if it’s the food, or the noise, but I like to nibble anyway and it’s a healthy alternative. If I want chips (salt) I eat pickles. If I want sweets, I eat carrots or water chestnuts. It’s my thing.
