the purpose of book reviews?

Q&A: the purpose of book reviews?

i’m using Stephenie Meyer’s The Host in my AS level coursework, and i have to explain the purpose of the book reviews on Amazon.

when you’ve just finished reading a book, most people don’t really think “right, let’s go write a review now :D ”. most of the reviews on Amazon that i’ve looked at are not the type that are encouraging you to read the book, ie. promoting it, they’re just of people expressing their opinions and interpretations.

what are the other reasons/purposes of book reviews?

It’s so people will know what others think of the book before they buy/read it. If it sucks and the cost of it is then people probably won’t buy it. On amazon it’s by people who actually read the book so it helps a lot.
