Make a big batch of mashed potatoes and set aside. Now take 1 package of ground lamb, brown in a skillet and toss into a casserole dish. Then add a mess of medium diced carrots and sauté them in the remaining grease. Add these and a bag of frozen peas to the casserole as well. Deglaze the skillet with some water and add 2 beef (or lamb, if you have them) bullion cubes. Heat this until the bullion has dissolved and add to the other ingredients in the casserole long with some thyme or savory. Stir the meat and vegetable mixture together (it should resemble a not too soupy stew — add water if you need to to make sure there is enough gravy). Pile the mashed potatoes on top and smooth out. Dot with butter or sprinkle with paprika and place in the oven at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour. This gives the flavors I chance to combine and soak in. Switch the oven to broil for a few minutes at the end to brown top of the potatoes and make a crust. Serve hot.
My friends ask me to make this almost every time they come to dinner and the kids want it weekly. Frankly I’m dead sick of the stuff, but why mess with success. *grin*

Question–: Will this recipe for shepherds pie be good?
I had shepherds pie once when I was younger and I loved it. I’m kind of a picky eater, but I love to play around with different concoctions in the kitchen. I was thinking about making this for my husband and myself. Here’s what I would like in the pie:
Hamburger meat
Chicken
Instant potatoes (trying to keep it simple)
corn
shredded cheese on top
served with a side of macaroni and cheese and green beans
Does this sound like a good mix of ingredients? I know hamburger meat and chicken doesn’t usually go together, but it something I personally enjoy. Also, how much of everything should I use? I was thinking maybe a pound of meat should do, since it’s just the two of us.

Easy Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
Print OptionsPrint (no photos)Print (with photos)
Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground round beef
1 onion chopped
1-2 cups vegetables – chopped carrots, corn, peas
1 1/2 – 2 lbs potatoes (3 big ones)
8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt, pepper, other seasonings of choice
Method
1 Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes).
2 While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan.
3 Sauté onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 mins). If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked.
4 Add ground beef and sauté until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add worcesterchire sauce. Add half a cup of beef broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist.
5 Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste
6 Place beef and onions in baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well.
7 Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.
Serves four.
SO since it makes 4, u can have left overs for you both or you can freeze the other 2 portions*
Recipies are made to make it your own*…so go ahead and use some chicken if you think it will be enjoyable*
ENJOY* Goodluck, hope it turns out tasteY*

Yes it sounds fine….
The way I make mine is I use Beef mince(same as Hamburger mince). I fry it off with onions, mushrooms & a little bit of garlic. Then I add corn, peas, & carrot. Then I put in the flavourings like tomato sauce, soy sauce, & any other sauce I might have at the time that would taste ok in it. A sprinkle of bacon stock or beef stock adds good flavour aswell. Add pepper not salt. The salt is in the sauces. Then I am the potato to the top like you & then sprinkle some cheese over the top.
