Question: Shopping for a new driver shaft ?
Hi,
I’ve picked up another 20-30 yards off the tee this year and noticed that my shaft is no longer stiff enough (Regular stock Diamana on the original Sasquatch) and I need to upgrade but I don’t really know what I should be looking for in a new shaft
I’m happy with my ball flight as is and I’m hitting around 250-265 now (in pretty damp conditions) but that’s all I know as potential criteria.
Any tips?

Before getting a new shaft…I’d advise you get your swing speed checked to be sure you actually need a stiff shaft. You may only be making better contact this yr and the regular shaft may actually still fit you well…..Its just a thought…..and…..even if you need a stiff shaft…you will want to be fit for a new shaft any way.

The performance of a golf shaft is directly related to the swing you put on it.
A regular flex is designed to have more head kick to increase distance. A stiff flex is more for control. In the end it is really about feel. My dad, 78, and an excellent player, swings in the 80 mph range, will not play a regular flex shaft. He says it feels too whippy.
Your extra 20-30 yards may be reduced if you go stiffer. If you hit 250-265, the shaft feels good and the ball is in the fairway, why would you want to switch? A stiff shaft will not get you more yardage. If you are loosing control of you driver, hitting high/low right/left, you may need to look into a stiff flex.
