I saw a Belgian Shepherd dog yesterday. I petted the dog, but felt very sorry for him; all that fur! It was very hot in Georgia. I saw another dog in the park on the 4th of July at midday. It was tan in color with a black face; all fur. I forget the name. Do these dogs suffer in summer? Is it cruel to have them in a hot climate?

only if their owners dont groom them well; brush them very often, wash them. If not then they could possibly be suffering just a little. but since they are long-haired, they would be shedding every day. that`s what usually helps them through hot weather. And also,i don`t think i`ve mention this, if they DON`T have an owner go help the or get help right away. just be cautious:)

Pugs and other Brachycephelic breeds overheat easily, so Brachy. breeds specifically shouldn’t be in hot climates.

On the flip side, dog’s coats help them keep cool. But yes, at a higher temperature, a dog can over heat easier (not faster than a Bracy. breed tho) therefore shouldn’t be out long, and if they are, need a LOT of water with them.

My dogs don’t “suffer” in Summer.

Not if you keep them shaved and it’s not summer longer than any other four seasons.

You don’t need to feel sorry for any Belgian in the heat. Belgians generally belong to people who know how to look after dogs so he’s not suffering because of all his hair. No dogs with coat, including OES and huskies suffer in the heat if they belong to people who know how to care for dogs in hot weather!
