Cap and trade isn’t a tax. At least for you it isn’t. Cap and trade places a cap on company emissions so if they go over that amount they have to pay a certain fee depending on how much they went over. If a company gets under the allotted emissions they can sell that emission surplus to another company. Eventually those large emitting companies that refuse to change will give out because they had to pay more in emission costs as well as losing money due to them raising prices while their greener competitors decrease prices because they have extra money coming in from selling carbon credits. However, as you guys are so against cap and trade and voted it out, or at least would have, there will now be a tax placed on EVERYTHING as was stated by the EPA if the cap and trade system was voted out. Brilliant. In fighting against one tax you welcome a stiffer one.

The fools. You will have to worry more later.

No, but I wouldn’t have been happy if they went through with it anyway. Cap and trade was severely flawed, but it could have been fixed, unfortunately now it’s in the bin.
Oh and by the way, if you drive a VW Jetta or something, you won’t be that affected, whereas if you drive a Chevy Suburban, you will pay for it dearly. In the US fuel is subsidized, whereas in Europe fuel is taxed, which is the general reason why in the US you drive Chevy Suburbans and in Europe we drive cars that on average get 40 MPG, and seeing an SUV / pickup is quite rare. It’s also the reason why we use other forms of transportation like bus/train.

As a UK citizen, I look forward to America leading the world out of this global warming tax scam. And preventing the UN from using AGW to impose its totalitarian ‘one world order’ on us.

It’s not a tax so much as it’s a swindle.

First whoever told you your fuel bill would go up 200% is a liar, and you are a fool for believing it. Cap and trade would have made the CO2 pay, and the non-polluters would be rewarded. It’s unfortunate that corporate interests own the US government, particularly the Republican party.

Answer by Sponk Taebo
global warming by carbon dioxide is a scam. the heat is in the oceans, not the air. co2 sucks at holding energy, all linear molecules do. and at 350 ppm of air which is mostly molecules really far apart….the best science I have seen, the chemistry and physics grad student, clearly shows CO2 is a bad canidate for global warming.

Anyone who’s happy cap and trade is dead is a fool.

If you were worried about your power bill with cap and trade, you should be damn worried now. Without cap and trade, the EPA is going to start regulating greenhouse gas emissions. This may well result in one-third of the coal power plant fleet being shut down, and likely no new coal plants being built. If you live in a heavy coal state, you’re in deep trouble.

With cap and trade the impact would have been minimal. Your power bill might have gone up 10%. Now, who knows? If a bunch of coal power plants in your area get shut down, you’re screwed. The Republicans did you a huge disservice. They put their short-term political gain above your economic wellbeing, and in fact the economic wellbeing of the country as a whole. Cap and trade would have been good for the economy along with the other policies that would have been implemented. Government CO2 regulation won’t be.

In a few years, coal states will come begging for cap and trade. Your problem is that you bought the false dichotomy that it’s cap and trade or nothing. It’s not, it’s cap and trade or EPA regulation, and you made the wrong choice.

There’s nothing you can do about it, except support a cap and trade system. The EPA’s mandate to regulate greenhouse gases through the Clean Air Act can only be reversed if the President allows it. President Obama will almost certainly veto any such proposal, and that’s if it makes its way through Congress, which is almost as unlikely. Sorry, but you’re stuck with at least 2 years of EPA greenhouse gas regulations and coal power plants being shut down as a result. You’re celebrating being hosed by your own Republican politicians.

You don’t get to hope that your boss and the utility company will figure out how to lower your power bill by improving your production efficiency – allowing the power company to make a profit on cleaner energy and maybe save your boss enough to keep you in business in spite of cheap offshore competition.

Yes very happy. We all know that even though the tax is aimed at companies the ones that pay in the end are the consumers. The consumer is where 100% of a companies money always comes from

Some of us are not even aware that cap and trade is dead. We suppose something must be done as long as the CO2 trend keeps rising (let alone other greenhouse gases).

I very glad it’s dead. Unfortunately it will be brought up again so we only won a temporary victory, at least we’ll take it.

As to the EPA raising taxes on everything else, this just proves to me they have too much power. They can go ahead and raise taxes, but in this economy, that’s cause for some a$$-kickin’ just like what the Democrats will get this November.

I wasn’t prepared for $1,400 a month electric bills, so this is very good. I’ll be able to keep warm this winter.
