Why Is Food That Is Healthy More Expensive Than Salty Fatty Food That Are Not Good For Us???????

i feel that it is population control the poor die young because they cant afford healthy food and the middle to upper class live longer

All the salt and flavourings disguise the poor quality of the ingredients and increase the shelf life. Healthy food can be cheap, but often takes more time and effort to source and prepare. That’s not easy if you’re a single mum working two jobs. The problems of nutritional and economic poverty are linked, but in complex ways. I think that to say that it is ‘population control’ is too simplistic. Who do you think is trying to control the population, and for what purpose? I don’t see poverty and malnutrition as some kind of middle class conspiricy, but I do think that class divisions and poverty are inevitable products of a capitalist economic system.

Don’t know if that is necessarily true, but if I buy a wrap in Greggs at lunchtime it costs me nearly £2. A sausage roll and a cake would cost me half that!

A:

yeah our school lets us go down town during lunch hour and buy lunch there once a week (other days we have to stay in school) but you almost have to get a bag of chips. you pay bout twice as much for sandwich or roll. it doesn’t make sense and i hate it cos i feel realy guilty for eating too many chips but also for wasting my money when I could have payed half.

The producers of junk food know that it is bad for you. They know that we know its bad for us. We eat it anyway. If the junk food producers keep their food cheap we will obviously buy more. The only way to justify our actions in eating bad food is how much money we saved buying it.

very true!!! the reason healthy food is more expensive is because it usually costs more to produce. Fatty, unhealthy food is cheap because its all garbage that doesnt cost much to produce, like corn syrup, trans fatty acids, and all the other crap that will kill you…its all cheap to make, so its cheap to buy!

this is really an interesting question…and you’re right…that’s why obesity is a big problem…..i guess for a diet we will have to eat lettuce and even so a head of lettuce is a lot more expensive then a greasy order of fries….! ,,

Have you ever heard of fresh vegetables and fruit? Fresh meat from the markets? They are all a darn sight cheaper than ready prepared (so called healthy) meals. I’m not sure where you get your ‘poor die young’ statistics. It’s the fat who live uncomfortably (as they get older) and who die young. Buy fresh, learn to cook and live longer.

A:

That is what the demand is now. Manufacturers know this is what people want and raise the cost of these items to make a buck. Also prepackaged food that is supposed to be healthy is more expensive. I don’t buy these things, because you are really paying for convenience. I try to prepare my own foods. I am poor, but I do the best I can to feed my family healthy. Preparing your own foods is a good way to do this.

Life is back to front…
But generally that its not the case. As fruit and veg is cheap.
Plus its how you wanna eat… i enjoy good food so im great lol
