Is Purina Puppy Chow A Healthy Food To Feed To A 6 Weeks Old Puppy?
OH and i know that its young but i had no choice ![]()
and i really need some best answers, so help
A: I have been feeding my dogs Purina Chow for over thirty years. Dog #1 was a spaniel cross that lived 16 healthy years, and died of a stroke. Dog #2 was an Irish Wolfhound that lived 9 years, 3months. She was very healthy until the day before she died of heart failure. Dog #3 is a husky cross that is hale and hearty at almost 13 years young. She was just given a check-up by her vet who said she could not find anything wrong with her. If a dog had allergies I would try another kind of food, but I have had no problems with Purina.
A: A lot of people will tell you how horrible it is. I won’t. There are much better dog foods available but you can’t ignore the fact that millions of healthy dogs have grown up on Purina puppy chow. Now that I have said that I will add that I would never feed or recommend it. The brands I recommend if you can get them near you are Blackwood and National. both companies have easy to find web sites. I fed my sled dogs National for several years until my local distributor lost his account with the manufacturer. After that I fed Eukanuba until Blackwood became available in my area. My dogs have been eating Blackwood for 4 years and I wouldn’t switch unless I am forced to
A: hi!
Not sure what kind of dog foods you have near you. It is best to get a puppy chow like Canidae, Solid Gold, Merrick, Wellness, etc… If you can’t then atleast get Purina ONE, Purina Pro Plan, Science Diet, Eukanuba, IAMS, etc….
Thier not the best but better than Purina regular puppy chow. Hope this helps!
A: When I got my first puppy we were feeding her purina and she got REALLY fat. We weren’t overfeeding her, it’s just that purina has so many fillers and unhealthy fats in it. Our vet told us to change her food and she immediatly started to lose weight, and was quickly down to a healthy weight. You should call your vet and ask them to recommend a healthy food for a pup that age. They shouldn’t require you to come see them, and they shouldn’t charge you anthing for the advise.
A: Foods like purina puppy chow are not very high quality.
Not only is it not very good for your dog because of all the fillers in it, it’s also going to cause your dog to shed more and be more likely to have skin problems.
Purina foods have a lot of corn and other grains in them and those are very common food allergens for dogs. Also, because dogs have a hard time digesting grains they don’t get much nutritionally from them which results in you having to feed them more. Then, because they’re eating so much food they can’t really use they poop A LOT more than if they were on a good food, and they get too many empty calories from the carbohydrates and often get fat.
It’s just a bum deal all the way around. You’re much better off feeding a high quality food.
Add: unfortunately, many vets don’t often recommend very good foods either because they’re not very knowledgable about nutrition. (not all vets are this way, but it is common) You can check past questions on here to find some really good recommendations.
A: When I had a poodle, I was feeding it Purina Puppy Chow. She started to get really sick so when I took her in for her shots and her health they asked what I have been feeding her…I told the Vet I was feeding her Purina Puppy Chow…He said it is the worst dog food you could ever feed your pets…cat chow included…It will kill your animals he said…
Now I only went by what he said and stopped feeding my babies purina…
WooHoo! I get 2 points and you get a STAR!
You have just been starred by the STARBUG!

A: This is what is in purina puppy chow:
Whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, brewers rice, soybean meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), barley, animal digest, calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, fish oil, salt, potassium chloride, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, choline chloride, zinc sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, zinc proteinate, DL-Methionine, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, brewers dried yeast, manganese proteinate, added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 2), niacin, Vitamin A supplement, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, calcium pantothenate, garlic oil, pyridoxine hydrochloride, Vitamin B-12 supplement, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamin D-3 supplement, riboflavin supplement, calcium iodate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), folic acid, biotin, sodium selenite.
Does this sound like the best diet, a healthy food for a puppy?
By products– do you know what by products are??? Corn- waste products and then more corn. That is why many people don’t feed this to their dogs.
Salt??

No. Purina is crap. It doesn’t have as much nutritional value either.
I would look at Canidae, Innova, Wellness, and AvoDerm.
Why did you have no choice?

Well, If you put some milk or warm water on top of the Purina Dog food it`ll all be OK. I feed my puppy`s Purina and their some of the Healthy`ist dogs I`ve ever seen. Their 6/2 months old.

Purina’s loaded with fillers and crap. It’s definitely not something I’d feed my dogs.

I wouldn’t feed my dog purina. Feed something natural- dogs aren’t meant to eat all of the additives in Purina.
