How to be with the sellers that are “so happy to help” you?

Question: How to be with the sellers that are “so happy to help” you?

In the city where I live people are generally very friendly and, therefore, whenever you visit any shop the seller would right away come up to you to help choose the right item. I appreciate this attitude of sellers toward their customers, but sometimes because of this I feel quite awkward. For example, there is one music store where I’ve been only once. When I came there I just wanted to take a brief look at what kind of guitars they have there. I myself a musician and I know how to choose guitars, but the problem was that even after I told the seller that I came just to take a look, he still followed behind me at every step and I wasn’t happy about it. I want to visit that store again, but I don’t want to run into the same situation.

Just politely indicate that you are only looking for future reference and not intending to buy “today”. That oughta make the salesguy loose interest in you as he wont be getting any commision and he would probbaly chase other customers.

Look them in the eye, smile even bigger and brighter than them, and say, “i’m just looking.” When they follow you anyway, try reversing the question by asking them if you can help them with anything. If they still follow you after that, shop elsewhere.

Ooooh I see what cha mean! I used to work at a frame store and my boss told me to be friendly and greet customers. There are those who approcach customers for reason like they are really friendly but it could also be that they are trying to be nice as part of their job to make you feel good and hope they get a sale.

Let’s see, try this sweety. What you can do is not stop going there since you liked the store a lot. I know it stinks to be unable to avoid places you love and in your case you shouldn’t. Before you walk in there, have your mind set that you want to look at this or that and that no one has the right to make you buy something you don’t want. Just kindly repeat to the sales people that no, thanks. You are just looking. If they begin chit-chat about “we have these on sale…” blah blah, just don’t follow the sales rep. Stay where you are at and repeat nicely that you are just looking but thanks. In your own words. So go for it, sweety! **Cheers for you*** You can do it, girl!
