| Writing A Book Review

Writing a book review is one of the most challenging tasks that students are expected to carry out in the course of their academic pursuits? However, there is no need to sweat anymore as below are various ideas which will help the student carry out effective and easy book review writing tasks which are essentials to every student. Book review writing is a highly efficient task which incorporates a wide variety of skills such that students who have amassed diverse skills are more likely to garner better grades and have an easy time with the book review task than those who lack the skills. Similarly, book review is not restricted to certain disciplines as a wide variety of subjects have book review assignments where the student evaluates a book after thoroughly reading it cover to cover.

Therefore, for one to be competent in book review writing, their reading skills have to be quite okay as the ability to execute al the said instructions and objectives of the book review, they must have understood the book.

This calls for better grammatical skills such as reading and note taking as it will require a summary of the key points that are detected on the way and which should be included in the book review. However, book review does not involve a single reading of the book but several attempts in different capacities such as incorporating scanning of the major sections and later on the minor parts. Caution should be taken to read all the sections of the book being reviewed as the various issues which will be addressed are likely to originate from various section of the book. Hence book review calls for plenty of patience and perseverance as some books are rather long such that they take up longer to read cover to cover.

The book review task also entails noting down the various points as the student reads through the book.

This may include note taking of various sections or various concepts which are outlined and should be included in the book review. However, to carry out efficient note taking for the book review, the student must have read through the instructions hence when reading the book, they are able to take note of the content that is necessary for the book review writing. Failure to understand the question of the book review is detrimental as chances of incorporating the wrong information are very likely. Similarly, it may lead to poor coordination of the book review and content of the book thus causing incoherence.

The other skill that is required is use of proper grammar which will make it easier to illustrate the main point using different wording. This will present the same idea of the book review while different criteria will be used to depict the same points. Flow of information in the book review should be maintained at a high degree as a book review that does not have the consistency of other book reviews results to a poor paper.

Lastly, the student should take sufficient time to proofread the work thus eliminating any form of errors that may have occurred in the course of writing the book review.

Here are some fabulously fun and delicious recipes that you can make for Chanukah. You can even make some of them in advance so that you can miraculously relax and enjoy your Chanukah meal with your family! Happy Chanukah!!

…… PUFF PASTRY & POTATO DREIDELS
WITH DOUBLE CARAMELIZED ONIONS

We love Idaho potatoes – they taste great and are grown in the Midwest! Here’s a unique way to use our flavorful potatoes and your favorite Chanukah cookie cutters. I’m sure your family and friends will be wowed by these tasty Chankuah dreidels!
.
………………………………………..

img code photo…. POTATO DREIDELS ….

media.aish.com/images/matten_potatodreidels.jpg

………………………………………..
..

2 pounds Idaho Potatoes (around 6 medium)
1 large Vidalia or Sweet onion, finely diced (around 2 ½ cups)
1 garlic clove, minced (or one frozen garlic cube)
¼ teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 large Vidalia or Sweet onion, thinly sliced
½ teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoons canola oil
2 sheets puff pastry, defrosted before using
flour for rolling puff pastry
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons warm water
.

Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Cover pot and reduce burner temperature to low. Cook the potatoes covered for 45 minutes until tender when pricked with a fork. Remove the potatoes from the water and allow them to cool completely. This step can be done a day in advance, just keep the potatoes in the refrigerator until ready to use. Peel the cooled potatoes and place them in a large bowl. Set aside.

Heat the oil in a large (preferably non-stick) skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic and sugar and sauté until the onion is golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally, around 20 minutes. You may need to reduce the temperature of the flame if the onion starts to burn rather than caramelize.

Click here to receive Aish.com’s free weekly email.

Using a fork or potato masher, mash the potatoes until there are no large lumps. Add the caramelized onions. Reserve the skillet from the onions – you will use it to caramelize the sliced onions. Mix the onions and potatoes until thoroughly combined. Add the salt and eggs. Stir until smooth with a fork, removing any remaining lumps.

Preheat oven to 400° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

Lightly flour a pastry board or mat. Roll out each sheet of the defrosted puff pastry dough to 9 ½ inches x 12 inches. Spread the prepared potatoes on one of the pastry sheets. Carefully place the second sheet of dough on top of the potatoes, gently pressing to adhere. Using a dreidel cookie cutter, carefully cut out rows of dreidel shapes from the dough. Place each dreidel on the prepared baking sheet.

Whisk the eggs and water together in a small bowl. Brush the dreidels with the egg. Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.

Heat 1 tablespoon of canola oil in the reserved skillet. Add the thinly sliced onion and sugar. Sauté for approximately 20 minutes until the onions are caramelized.

Serve the Puff Pastry and Potato Dreidels on a bed of sliced caramelized onions for a beautiful Chanukah appetizer or side dish.

Note: To make these extra special – roll out an additional sheet of puff pastry dough. Using small Hebrew letter cookie cutters, cut out “nun”, “gimel”, “hey” (or “pey” if in Israel!), and “shin” shapes. Place on top of the unbaked dreidels. Brush with egg, then bake as directed above.
.
…………………………………………………………………………………
…………………………………………………………………………………

…… HASH BROWN POTATO LATKES

When making potato latkes one of the most time consuming tasks is peeling all the potatoes! Here’s a super speedy way to make “almost-from-scratch” latkes, with a “made-from-scratch” taste. No one will ever know that you didn’t slave in the kitchen for hours making these delicious latkes – and you’ll have time to enjoy them with your family! Now that’s one of the real miracles of Chanukah!
.
………………………………………….

………………………………………….
..

1 lb Hash Browns (defrosted if frozen)
1 medium onion, finely diced
2 large eggs
1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
½ teaspoon salt (optional)
Canola Oil for frying
.

In a large bowl mix all ingredients until thoroughly combined. In a large skillet, heat oil. Drop large spoonfuls of potato mixture into the oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. Serve warm with apple sauce or sour cream.
………………………………………………………………………………..

…… TANGY GLAZED CORNED BEEF
(GREAT FOR THE GFE – GLUTEN FREE EATER)

This recipe is great for when life is crazy and you’re busily trying to get ready for Shabbat or a Holiday. Preparing it requires very little effort! To get melt-in-your mouth-tender, juicy, flavorful beef you boil the meat in a large pot of water for several hours, then make a simple glaze and bake it for a short time. It couldn’t be easier. I once made the mistake of trying to roast a corned beef. UGH, it was one of the worst things I have ever made – it was Dead Sea salty. Boiling the Corned Beef helps to remove a significant amount of the salt – so simple…and so delicious!
.
……………………………………..

img code photo…. TANGY GLAZED CORNED BEEF

media.aish.com/images/matten_tangybeef.jpg

……………………………………..
..

4 pound corned beef brisket
15 ounces mandarin orange preserves
1 tablespoon mustard
¼ cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar
non-stick vegetable spray
.

Line a large baking pan with aluminum foil. Spray with non-stick vegetable spray. Set aside.

In a large stock pot, cover the corned beef with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.

Simmer for 30 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and drain the water completely. Recover the beef with fresh water. Return to heat and bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and cook corned beef for an additional 2 ½ to 3 hours – until beef is tender. Drain water from the pot. Place the beef on the prepared baking pan.

Preheat the oven to 350° F.

In a large bowl combine the orange preserves, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar. Stir until smooth.
Spoon the sauce over the corned beef. After 15 minutes, remove the beef from the oven and spoon the sauce in the pan over the beef. Return the beef to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool completely. Slice the beef when completely cooled.

Notes:

You can also use apricot preserves or duck sauce as a substitution for the mandarin orange preserves.

This roast slices best after being refrigerated for several hours – use a very sharp knife for best results.

You can freeze this roast. I recommend slicing the roast before freezing.
.
………………………………………………………………………………..
………………………………………………………………………………..

…… PAINTED CHANUKAH COOKIES

Here’s a fun way for you to include kids of all ages in the Chanukah food preparations. This painted cookie recipe was given to me by my dear friend Hindy who used to make these cookies every Chanukah with her now-grown kids. These cookies really let the budding artist in everyone shine. You just paint the cookies with an egg yolk based “paint” which dries into a shiny glaze while baking. They’re beautiful and simple to make – a great addition to your Chanukah celebrations!!
..

1 cup sugar
½ cup shortening
2 large eggs
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
additional flour for rolling dough
.

Preheat oven to 375° F. Cover 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl with a paddle attachment, cream the sugar and the shortening. Add eggs one at a time, then add the orange juice and vanilla and mix until completely blended. Add the dry ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined and dough is formed.

Divide into dough in half, and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes until dough is chilled and easier to handle.

Roll out dough with floured rolling pin on floured board. Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Transfer cookies to prepared baking sheets. Paint with Cookie Glaze.

Bake 8-10 minutes on prepared cookie sheets. Makes a little over 1 pound of dough.
.
…………………………………………………………………………………
…………………………………………………………………………………

…… PAINTED COOKIE GLAZE

Use new or thoroughly washed paint brushes. You can divide the glaze or make a separate batch for each “paint” color. Use one paintbrush for each different color.
..

1 large egg yolk, lightly beaten
¼ teaspoon water
assorted food colors.
.

Mix yolk, water and food coloring together in a small bowl. Paint the cookies!

Notes: I have four paint brushes so I let my girls pick four “paint” colors. We found that lighter/brighter colors work a little better than darker ones. We also found that if you would like to layer the colors, start with a lighter color on the bottom. Let it “dry” for a few minutes and then paint over it with your accent colors. Have fun!!

These are all the apps currently on my iPhone. There are many, many notes with links. If there isn’t a note on an app leave a comment and I’ll add one. I just did my favorites at the moment. To get a closer look, see the original size.

Tip: to get an idea for what I added notes to see tags at the right.

Here’s a guide:
* I use MobileMe to keep my calendar, contacts, preferences, and other data in sync. I went without it for 6 months… it is worth the cost.
* Screens 1-3 contain my general use apps.
* Screens 3-4 contain music creation apps
* Screens 5-6 contain my video game apps
* Screen 6-7 board game apps (some of which are video games)
* The end of screen 7 is trial apps and apps I’m trying out.
* I arrange each section alphabetically. I tried one large alpha index but found that the categories help.
* The only app I have liked that I do not have installed (because I beat it!) is Flight of The Amazon Queen. If you like Monkey Island or Maniac Mansion try it out.
* Some of these will get deleted next time I clean up. I keep games around because my taste and time available to play them changes.
* I’ve been making music with just the iPhone, and sometimes using Ableton Live to record and overlay tracks.
* I prefer music instrument apps over ones that sequence.
* I keep plenty of different music apps on there in case the desire to make that kind of sound strikes me.
* I misaligned the last screenshot in Photoshop before closing out and didn’t save my progress. It is driving me crazy.

tips:children healthy food–: How often as a parent do you buy your children presents relating to food and healthy eating?
How often would you as a parent buy your children presents that promotes nutritional eating? Working on a business plan for a children’s toy aimed at parents of children between the ages of 3-5 and trying to work out the seasonality of toy purchasing behavior. Any suggestions please??

Answer by Moon
My son just turned 4 and his grandmother bought him a toy shopping cart with plastic food.He has fruits and vegetables. He is autistic and doesn’t talk but my 2 year old can now name the fruits and vegetables. She says “Cauliflower, eggplant, tomato, celery, etc.” She pretends to eat them.

Other than that, I do not see what other toys there are that promote healthy eating (besides a food pyramid puzzle?). Since they have their plastic food, I will not be buying them anything else regarding healthy eating.

So to answer your question, NONE.

Hearty boeuf Bourguignon served in deep bowls over a garlic-rubbed slice of baguette toast; decadently rich croque monsieur, eggy and oozing with cheese; gossamer crème brulee, its sweetness offset by a brittle burnt-sugar topping. Whether shared in a cozy French bistro or in your own home, the romance and enduring appeal of French country cooking is irrefutable.
tips:Question–: Where can I find a healthy food diet to last me several weeks?
I’m a 17 year old who is pretty active, I’m starting a new workout plan and I would really like to just cut the junk food out of my diet. I’d like to find a meal plan that tells you what exactly to eat each day if such a thing exists.
I know most of that. I have swim practice every day so I wouldn’t starve myself, and I’m not necessarily trying to lose weight, I don’t need to.

The following is the answer: (Hint: The reader is not the correct identification.)

Answer by !
NO

The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, “starving” your self etc.

first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..

eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be “lean meat” such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID “JUNK FOOD” and “Fast Food” as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good .

if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.

go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.

if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.

10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure…but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed…

btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a “food steamer” at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a “rice cooker” which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs “healthy carbs” to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good “jasmine rice”.. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like “cumin” or “Curry powders”, etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.

drink “Green Tea” as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster…you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

Answer by mark
whole foods store if u have one there
kinda expensive on most items.

Answer by Alina
Your more likely to go off your diet, if one day you dont feel like eating whats on the meal plan or you simply dont have it or dont like it, i would suggest you start eating unlimited veggies, lots of fish, eggs, meat and avoid processed meats, No carb diets are teh best way to get toned and lost weight, you dont even have to do vigorious exercises along with it, a 10 minute walk is enough.
