Q&A: Do cat’s need another cat to be happy?

I have one cat and I am just curious if cats in general are happier if they have a pal.

my cat is rarely alone… maybe 4 hours out of a day tues-Fri she is alone, and then maybe an hour or two on the weeked for me to do grocery shopping. She is very spoiled and my husband and I play with her all of the time… She seems to be happy as well.

what do you think?

no, cats are very solitary animals. they don’t HAVE to have another cat to be happy. if you did have another cat, they probably wouldn’t pay much attention to each other and would just get into little catfights lol

i have a male cat who is 2 and i got a male kitten to keep him company and play with him but my adult cat just kicked the sh*t out of him so in the end i had to get rid of kitten. some cats just like being the only one. if you are with him so much, i think he will be fine.

don’t worry your cat is perfect and sounds happy. but if you want another
cat then that would be good too, unless they end up fighting.

I think that cats can be perfectly happy alone, and they can also be happy to have a friend. Do whatever if right for you, your cat will adjust.

Some cats do, most cats like the company. They will probably ignore each other, but enjoy each other’s company! <3 ;D

Your cat is really not alone all that much considering most people have to be away from home 9 or 10 hours a day. I’ve had a lone cat for 5 years and he seems perfectly fine while I’m away at work. I think leaving toys out and having a cat napper by a window keeps him occupied when he’s not sleeping.

Last summer I took care of a friend’s cat for a month at my place, and my cat wanted nothing to do with the new cat. Perhaps you could borrow a “loaner” cat to bring into your home and see how your cat reacts. Yours might take to a pal.
