Can I use direct quotes in my book review blog?

Hi,I did the following:
Q&A: Can I use direct quotes in my book review blog?

I just started a blog where I’ll do reviews and was wondering if it would be ok for me to use some quotes from the books I review as long as I cite them. And is citing them even necessary? I’m just doing this for fun so I don’t know if I should be worried about any kind of legal stipulations that may arise because I’m talking about someone else’s work.

Always, always, ALWAYS cite where you got your material.

Would you like it if someone took a quote from your blog and failed to cite you as the source? No, you wouldn’t. I write a blog as well and it states in a tab about copyright that NO part of my blog may be used without permission. It may be tweeted or shared via Facebook but passages or sentences cannot be used without written permission from me.

Fun or serious you should always cite where you took your quote from. To do so without citing is stealing. Plain and simple.

Yes, as long as they are brief – you can’t quote huge chunks of the book, just a sentence or so. And you absolutely have to cite them.
