book reviews of|The Hunger Games Book Review

My review of the first in the trilogy of books set to become feature films written by Suzanne Collins.

Sections dealing with how the war played out on Parliament Hill — and the disconnect between Ottawa and Kandahar — strengthen the book. Brewster nicely captures the absurdity of the Conservative government's spinning and message control.

I tried reading this book. But the beginning of the book is like crossing a dessert. You start off thinking to yourself that this is going to be fun. Then you start feeling dehydrated (losing interest). Then all of a sudden, you see an oasis (games are finally announced). You slowly start to crawl towards the oasis (the train portion at the beginning). Now you must decide. Do you continue on to the oasis or do you give up and die? I gave up. Got to that boring train part and gave up.

I like CF the best of the three, but I understand why THG wasnt as good. In the 1st book Collins doesn’t want you to get too attached to the other characters because of the nature of the games. She gave you enough to picture some characters in your mind but not enough to where it mattered if the lived or died. Now there are obviously exceptions such as Rue, Peeta, and Cato but obviously itd be horrible if she didnt give you something. But ironically the best part of CF was that you got to know

Did you picture the characters like the cast of the movie since you saw the trailer first?

I usually have a hard time committing myself to reading a whole book, but I could not put down any of the Hunger Games books.

I love them all equally at the moment. I’d have to read them over to rank them. Though, I truly love the first one because everything felt fresh and new (especially the arena and characters that you’ve come to love). Then I love the second one because there was more character development and more twists. You also get to see more of their world. The third one might be the slowest out of them all except for the last part, but it’s IMO the most realistic and heart-wrenching.

I started reading in the book a week ago and i just couldnt get into it. Maybe its just not my type of book but it got boring to me

A lot of people say THG go downhill in terms of quality, but I truly believe each book is amazing in its own way. The book covers get lighter in color, but the tone of the books become darker/grittier. You think that SC has already incorporated enough violence and realism/twists, but wait till you read the next two books. Each book gets even more unpredictable and there will be many more deaths as you probably already know. Please, do another review for Catching Fire once you’re done.

Just wanted to comment, you said that no one looks forward to the Hunger Games in any town, but actually in district 2 and other career districts they love it and can’t wait to volunteer.
